Science Week
Mrs Melanie Woods
Last week was National Science Week and it is a joy to witness all the budding scientists we have here at ACC!
All week our Primary students have been exploring God's world and God's Word through a series of exciting experiments and activities.
Students have discussed concepts such as gravity, friction, density and tension as they've created floating jellyfish, paper aeroplanes, and hot air balloons. The parents were just as competitive and it was wonderful to see students and adults all involved and having fun in the classroom!
Book Week
Mrs Melanie Woods
Book Week has arrived and has culminated in a fantastic staff, family and students Book Week costume parade! The theme is ‘Read, Grow, Inspire’. We have had a number of exciting activities planned across the whole school throughout the week, starting with classroom doors adorned with Biblical Stories that the students have been learning about. Wednesday was a hoot as we were serenaded and entertained by Dan Warlow who engaged us with the Bible as the most inspirational book ever written.
The parade was filled with excitement, cheers and creativity as each student was celebrated and showcased as they walked across the stage and their teacher introduced them and their character. As we rolled through 550 students, we broke up the parade with fun dance breaks enjoying fun, music and unique dance moves as we rocked the MPC.
The older students in Primary were treated to a guest author who encouraged them to love words and the gift and power of writing. Many memories have been made and may the written word grow and inspire you!
Please see some photos below of our Primary doors and check our Facebook page this evening for a full album of shots from today!
KB Geography Unit and Kindergarten’s Excursion to Calmsley Hill City Farm
Miss Bianca Kleinig
This Term in Geography, KB has been learning all about farms and why farms are significant places. We have investigated the characteristics of living things on farms including plants and animals and explored how farm animals can meet our needs for food and clothing. We have also extended this learning within our writing unit this term as we are focusing on writing information reports. Together we chose different farm animals to investigate. To begin the writing process, we watched a factual video about the chosen animal. Throughout the video we discussed and grouped information to categorise what the animal looks like, where it lives, what it eats and recorded any interesting facts that we learnt. Using these categories assists KB in remembering the structure of their information report. KB then completes their report with a beautifully detailed illustration.
We then had such a wonderful opportunity to go on an adventure to Calmsley Hill Farm. Students were so excited to see a farm in real life along with all the animals they have been learning about in geography and writing. We got to see camels, donkeys, snakes, cows, pigs and more! The students got to experience many exciting jobs that farmers do such as milking cows. They were so excited to pet sheep, goats and baby chickens. Our Kindergarten students also got to see a demonstration of a working dog herding some sheep. It was such an exciting trip for our students and we are so excited to keep learning!
Dan Warlow Concert
On Wednesday morning, our Primary students and families were delighted and entertained by Dan Warlow, a Christian musician and entertainer. The students had been studying his music and had a great time singing along to all his songs. Jed the puppet also featured which captured the audience instantly and Dan shared a powerful message about Jesus with all the students through storytelling and drama. Please ask your students about their experiences in Primary School this week!
Exploring Adventures and Building Memories: Year 4's Unforgettable Camp Experience at Wedderburn Christian Camp
Miss Billie Thorne
We are thrilled to share the exciting news of our Year 4 students' recent adventure-filled camp at the picturesque Wedderburn Christian Campsite. The experience was nothing short of exhilarating, as our young campers immersed themselves in a range of activities that not only challenged them but also brought them closer together.
Throughout their time at the camp, our Year 4 students had the opportunity to engage in six captivating activities that truly pushed their boundaries and encouraged teamwork. From the thrill of scaling rock walls during rock climbing to the heart-pounding excitement of the flying fox, every activity was designed to foster both personal growth and collective cohesion. The glider possum, giant swing, initiative games, and H2O skirmish added elements of strategy, courage, and camaraderie to the mix.
One of the most cherished moments of the camp was the evening gathering around the campfire. The students delighted in the age-old tradition of singing campfire songs, their voices blending harmoniously with the crackling of the fire. Roasting marshmallows added a touch of sweetness to the evening, sparking laughter and creating memories that will surely last a lifetime.
The Year 4 camp experience went beyond mere adventure; it was an opportunity for our students to develop resilience, discover hidden strengths, and cultivate a deeper sense of unity as a cohort and with Christ. As educators, we are immensely proud of the way our students embraced the challenges, supported one another, and exhibited outstanding sportsmanship throughout their time at the camp. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated camp organisers, instructors, and our school staff who made this memorable experience possible for our Year 4 students. Their commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and transformative environment truly shone through.
As we welcome our Year 4 students back, we look forward to witnessing the positive impact of this camp experience on their personal growth and interactions within our school community. Together, we celebrate not only the thrilling activities they conquered but also the friendships they forged and the memories they crafted during their time at Wedderburn Christian Camp.
