Read more to hear about Caytlyn Tan’s artwork submission to the ‘Canal to Creek’ competition.
Caytlyn is one of our Year 8 students, and was our 2022 Portraiture Prize winner at ACC Marsden Park. She has been drawing from a young age, and believes that artwork can express messages deeper than words.
She recently participated in an art competition called ‘Canal To Creek’, which was open nationwide. Her inspiration for her artwork ‘First Nation’ comes from her desire that the culture and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders should be cherished, and not forgotten. The tears depicted on the boy’s face are a reminder that we should also never forget the impacts and experience of the Stolen Generation. Caytlyn’s work resonated with the judges and her artwork is now on display in the WestConnex Head Office.
Caytlyn had never experienced proper art lessons before joining ACC. She is an enthusiastic member of her Visual Arts classes, and our Art Club on campus, and she has benefited from the technical advice and support given by our specialist staff. She is excited to enter more competitions and to develop her own business, selling her hand drawn designs.
Well done, Caytlyn!
