Portraiture with Year Seven
Mrs Elizabeth Oloaga
It was said by the Year Seven students that self portraits are way too difficult to draw, but throughout the Semester, Year Seven cultivated the skills and showcased their talents to convey emotions and realistic characteristics depicting the ‘self’. They should be so proud of all their dedication and perseverance in creating these exceptional artworks.
Here are a few words from Year Seven after completing their self portraits.
“I thought that drawing a self portrait would be so difficult and it was at the beginning, but I learnt so much and feel blessed that God has given me this gift to draw”. Chris
“I never knew I could draw so good! I learnt so much unexpectedly and now art is my new hobby”. Rohan
“My drawing skills were pushed to new limits. I learnt so much! Facial proportions, how to create depth, volume, and highlights, I understand how to layer different tonal values and why it’s important to use pencil gradients” Deborah
“I enjoyed sketching and learnt a lot more about shading and art techniques, all while challenging myself to create this portrait”. Summer
“I thought I was horrible at art but I actually enjoy art now. I’m motivated to do my best especially since I've learnt the skills to convey realism”. Ryan
It has been an incredibly rewarding and inspiring journey for our Year Seven students, with many exciting new artists emerging and exciting projects in their future!
Year 9 Studio Art
Mrs Elizabeth Oloaga
During Term 3, Year 9 Studio Art elective designed and created a unique wearable denim art piece from their study of art, fashion and scripture.
Year 9 student Maiata shares the meaning of her Deadly Denim project, stating:
“The meaning of my textile design is about how the Lord clothed me with goodness. I was inspired by the scripture Isaiah 61:10, “I am overwhelmed with joy in the LORD my God! For he has dressed me with the clothing of salvation and draped me in a robe of righteousness.
Year 7 Mediaeval Europe
Mr Liam Tomalaris
This term students in Year 7 have been exploring the mediaeval period in Europe, learning about western civilisation after the fall of the Roman Empire, and how society had to adapt to new systems of government, lifestyles and military strategies in order to survive.
As a part of our study Year 7 specifically explored the features and role of castles during this time period. Students were placed into groups and then issued with a specific castle design, beginning with the more rudimentary Motte and Bailey castle, to the more effective and fortified Concentric and Stone Keep Castles.
Students then conducted independent research and answered key questions about the design and history of their castle with teacher support. Finally the students drew together all of their research and worked together to construct their own version of the castle in 'Minecraft Education' making sure to strongly consider the criteria that they would be marked upon: Historical Accuracy, Aesthetic Appearance and Teamwork. Students worked diligently and created some fantastic designs which they were all very proud of.
CSSA Tennis Tournament Gala Day
Mr Andrew Wade
On Wednesday 1st November, Christian schools from around the State combined to compete at the CSSA Tennis Tournament Gala Day. Australian Christian College Marsden Park had three representatives, all in the Open Girls section of the event. The standard on the day was extremely high and each of the girls competed admirably whilst also demonstrating excellent sportsmanship. At the end of the day, two of our girls Vesna Marinkov and Brooke Komorowski competed in the final, with Vesna winning 6-4. Mia Princip also did extremely well, making the quarter finals.
