Wiburd Shield Cricket Update
Mr Bradley Whale
Our Under 15 Boys' cricket team took on Penrith Anglican College on a hot day today in the first round of the Wiburd Shield.
Co-Captains Alex Domingo and Sevy Fenil led the team well, making many big tactical decisions regarding the bowling order, field placement and batting strategy, setting the team up well for a great win.
Krishna Adhyaru kept brilliantly behind the stumps, motivating the team and setting the tone whilst at the crease, finishing his batting innings with 30 runs. Partnered with him was Alex, providing a captains knock of 38 runs when the boys needed someone to dig deep, laying a strong foundation for our final team score. Also contributing solidly to our overall total of 212 runs was Aryan Patel with 28 runs.
Taking the field to defend our score, the boys started strongly, generating lots of pressure through their voice, tight bowling and fielding. Sevy, Alex, Charan Rapolu and Rohan Pillai led the charge early, keeping PAC to a lower score of 6/32 after 12 overs. Penrith rallied and managed to hold their ground, but could not contain the barrage of deliveries from our attack, with Akshay Narikimilli claiming a few late wickets and keeping PAC to a total of 57 runs.
Overall a great day for our ACC boys, with a win that sees them progress through to the next round of the Wiburd Shield!
Year 8 Japanese
Mrs Narae Son
In Year 8 Japanese this term, we are learning all about the culinary culture of Japan!
Students are enjoying the opportunity to engage in intercultural learning experiences, as they compare Japanese breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert to that of Australia, as well as try some Japanese food! Do we love Japanese food or not? The students are divided in their opinions over certain Japanese food.
Do you dare to try? Why don’t you give なっとう (natto), a fermented soybean dish enjoyed by Japanese people for breakfast, a try. If you want to err on the side of caution, maybe go for a のり(nori) – seaweed or どら焼 (dorayaki) – Japanese red bean pancakes. Cast your votes along with Year 8 and join us on our journey of exploring the topic of Japanese food!
TAS Update
Mrs Deb Truman
Welcome everyone to Term 4. The TAS team has been working hard over the past term completing design projects.
HSC Students:
In Term Three HSC students in Industrial Technology - Multimedia and Design & Technology completed their Major Design Projects. We are so proud of the work they put into these projects. As part of their Product Development Unit the HSC Food Technology students had the opportunity to create food items and sell them at MAD night with great success.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our National Office (CEM) for their investment in the TAS faculty over the past months. We have added a new kitchen - H8, a second woodwork room - G4 and a textiles room - H7. We are looking forward to all that will be added with the opening of the new Technology Building in 2024. Exciting things like video studios, virtual reality, high end computer labs, maker space, robotics and more.
We would also like to officially welcome a new member to our team, Mr Ron Raj. Mr Raj comes with years of experience teaching in the Mount Druitt area. He will be teaching Year 12 ITM and Year 7 Technology. Mr Raj has also been tasked with establishing the technology needed to get our new Technology Building up and running in 2024.
Year 7 Projects:
Self Watering Plants - Year 7 designed self watering plants using recycled materials lasting at least two weeks. They were excited to see the results.
Bridge Building - Students designed bridges using structures they had researched and then tested them for strength and endurance when weight is applied.
Year 8 Projects:
Our Year 8 students have all had the opportunity to learn basic sewing skills and then created bags with designs they have crafted on their own. Others in Year 8 have built Animal Lamps while developing woodwork skills.
