Last week of school for Year 12
Mrs Sarah Aydin
On Monday, our Year 12 students ‘took over’ our Secondary assembly. They delivered an assembly that was heartwarming, reflective, engaging, fun and full of humour. A highlight for many was the Kahoot challenge, where all Homerooms battled it out during a quiz full of facts about our Year 12 students. A special mention to Keiara for sharing with us all a powerful message about overcoming challenges.
The next day, we could not have been blessed with better weather for our Year 12 Fun Day. Everyone got involved in the activities - beach cricket, dipping their toes in some freezing cold water, body boarding, surfing, fun group challenges and a relaxing lunch afterwards to tie it all together, with frozen yoghurt to finish a scorching hot day. Our students were responsible and well-mannered, the sunscreen was plentiful and we loved having this opportunity to build and celebrate the community amongst this group of students.
Our Year 12 Graduation Assembly and Guard of Honour was an outstanding celebration of our students' achievements and the significant milestone of completing their formal schooling here at ACC Marsden Park. If you missed the assembly and would like to watch a recording, please access it here: https://youtu.be/bA76_mZDrJA
Finally, last night we enjoyed our Year 12 Valedictory Dinner. This was a wonderful opportunity for our Year 12 students, their parents, and our staff community to express our gratitude and appreciation for the community we have built together. We had a great time hearing speeches, enjoying a photo booth, and dancing the night away.
Thank you to every member of staff who has invested in this cohort, to every parent who has raised and supported these students, and to our Year 12 students themselves for leading and shaping our community so well. We are extremely proud of every one of you!
Dance Off
Mrs Kiah Cavens
Dance Off is a highly anticipated event in the Secondary school calendar.
Students look forward to earning House points, celebrating one another and showcasing their talents. The event is a significant marker of the culture amongst Secondary students. In particular, Dance Off is an opportunity for Year 11 and 12 students to set a culture of encouragement, and for Houses to work together to create interesting and engaging performances.
This year, Dance Off included a variety of group and individual performances ranging from soulful contemporary pieces to funky hip-hop numbers. A panel of judges deliberated on each dance, considering the complexity, skill and team-work.
Year 9 Geography Excursion
Mr Matthew Thomson
Last week Year 9 and their teachers were able to venture out to Homebush Bay Wetlands. As part of this excursion, we were able to undertake experiments and explore both past and present environments of the Wetlands. The day's proceedings expanded and developed student knowledge and their understanding of their current Geography topic 'Environmental Change and Management' through real world experiences.
The Year 9 Geography teachers were very proud of the way students conducted themselves throughout the day and were told by Sydney Olympic Park Education Centre that they were the best group of students that had undertaken the excursion in a long time. Well done Year 9.
Ministry Excursion
Mr Benjamin Green
Last Thursday our Ministry Team took a number of our student leaders to the National Youth Alive Academy for an excursion. Mr Jacobi delivered a powerful message to the students and lead the group in a time of prayer. It was beautiful seeing our students have some transformative encounters with God as the team prayed with them.
On the bus ride home, students openly shared things they had learnt and ways they felt God had been ministering to them on the day which was incredibly encouraging. These excursions are a special time that strengthen the staff/student relationships while also seeking to disciple each of them to know and love Jesus all the more.
