Secondary Sport Update
Mrs Tiarne Tranter
As we dive into the second half of the academic year, we are thrilled to share an exciting update on the sporting events that have unfolded in the Secondary School at Australian Christian College during Term 2 and look ahead to what is happening in Term 3. Our students have showcased remarkable sportsmanship, dedication, and skill throughout various competitions, and we are proud of the way they have represented the college on the sporting field.
CSSA Metropolitan West Competitions in Netball and Soccer
Throughout Term 2, both our Netball and Soccer squads competed in the 2023 Metropolitan West CSSA competitions, held at Harvey Park, Marayong. On the soccer fields, both our 15 & Under and Opens teams showcased their skills by securing spots in the playoff game for 3rd vs. 4th. The boys played brilliantly together as a team, and overcame some tough competition when their backs were against the wall. Our Netball teams, the 15&U and Opens, also demonstrated exceptional teamwork, finishing 6th and 4th respectively. Congratulations to all our athletes who participated in these exciting competitions and represented our school so well.
ACC Annual Cross Country Carnival
The Rouse Hill Regional Park set the stage for the ACC Annual Cross Country Carnival, where our students faced a challenging course with commendable determination. Congratulations to all participants for completing the demanding course. An impressive 46 students advanced to the State CSSA Carnival, and an additional two students, Nathaniel Kwok (Year 12 OC) and Wynter Bradshaw (Year 3 DE), earned their spot in the Combined Independent Schools (CIS) carnival. Congratulations to all our students who trained hard for these events.
Inaugural ACC Cricket Training Program
2023 has seen the commencement of a new and exciting addition to our College Sport offering; the Inaugural ACC Cricket Training Program. We want to take the time to acknowledge our Junior Boys Cricket Squad for their commitment to weekly training sessions, refining their skills under the expert guidance of Mr. Whale, Mr. Kwok, and Mr. Aslam. The boys are now gearing up for the competitive season, poised to take on challenges in the Wiburd Shield and CSSA Knockout competitions. Best of luck to the ACC Junior Boys Cricket team for the remainder of the year.
Track and Field: Commencement of the Athletics Season
As we embrace the Athletics season, we celebrate the remarkable achievements of our students in various track and field events. This year, we proudly sent our largest-ever team to the Zone CSSA Athletics Carnival, reflecting the talents and commitment of our students to engaging in College events in our Secondary School. We wish all the best to our students progressing to the State Carnival in the upcoming weeks and look forward to hearing how you go!
CSSA State Oztag Gala Day 15&U
On Wednesday 9 August, we sent two teams to the CSSA State 15&U Oztag Gala Day at Jamison Park, Penrith. While the girls' team narrowly missed out on the finals, they displayed remarkable teamwork and determination throughout the event, leaving a lasting impression on and off the field.
Our Junior Boys team also had an exceptional day, finishing the round stages in equal first position in their pool. Unfortunately the boys were knocked out of the finals based on a countback.
We would like to thank Mrs Mewjork and Miss Perry for their expert coaching on the day, and congratulate all our young athletes for their hard work and dedication!
Football NSW Schools Futsal Championships
As we roll into Term 3, we currently have students preparing to attend the Football NSW Schools Futsal Championships. Football NSW events are an opportunity for our students to compete against schools across wider NSW, and another chance for our students to showcase their talents and the distinct ACC teamwork which we have come to love. Our teams have been preparing for this competition with weekly training sessions with Mr Mthembu and are looking forward to taking on some tough competition. We wish our athletes the best of luck on the day!
CSSA Met West Basketball Competition
The Annual CSSA Met West Basketball Season commenced in Week 2 of this term and our ACC teams have started the season strong with three wins! We extend our wholehearted support to our teams for the season ahead! To keep up to date with our 2023 Met-West Basketball fixtures and results, go to metwestcssa.spawtz.com
Student service in sport
Throughout this year, our College has taken on a more significant role in assisting with the organisation of our Metropolitan West CSSA Zone sporting competitions. I would like to acknowledge our remarkable senior students who volunteered their time to serve at these events. Our students have taken on responsibilities such as scoring, field setup, and assisting officials, and have exemplified what means to be a part of the ACC community - an ‘others first’ attitude which seeks to serve with humility. We have been so proud to watch our ACC students serving others in this way.
To all students of Australian Christian College, we are so proud of the way you have been representing our school with integrity and sportsmanship both on and off the sporting field. We pray you keep striving for excellence, supporting your teammates, and nurturing the values that make us proud to be part of this wonderful community.
As we continue to celebrate achievements and embrace challenges, remember that every effort contributes to our collective success. We praise God for you and continue to pray for you all, both in sport and in every part of your journey at Australian Christian College.
Learning Spotlight
Year 7 HSIE - Japan Study
Miss Meghan Flood
This term Year 7 have begun their study of Japan under the Shoguns. To gain more information about each level of society during medieval Japan, students have been studying the role of the Shoguns and the Samurai.
This week, students have been examining the pieces and styles of armour, types of weaponry and the important code that the Samurai lived by. They used primary sources to gain inspiration to draw their own Samurai. They showed great attention to detail and created some amazing Samurai depictions. It was really great to see our students use their sources to create some intricate armour, masks, and weaponry for their Samurai. Year 7 students are excited to continue learning more about Shogunate Japan over the coming weeks.
