Read more to hear about the Staff vs. Year 12 sport competition, Year 9’s Mission Aviation Fellowship incursion and the Year 11 Biology excursion to Long Neck Lagoon.

Staff vs. Year 12 Sport

The first of a series of sporting encounters between Year 12 and staff kicked off on Friday 2nd September in a fiercely fought game of Oztag.

From the first whistle the staff were on the back foot, with Jonty Hossack (Student Captain) demonstrating his ability to twist, turn and dodge all staff before they were even aware what was happening. As the game progressed, the staff began to find their rhythm, particularly thanks to the fast feet of Mr Messenger (Staff Captain).

Joshua Abraham, TJ Martin, Andrea Abalos and Sarah Mosca continued to put on a clinical display of Oztag for all spectators, and staff playing. However, Miss Conway made the Year 12s work hard to defend their line on multiple occasions, and even crossed the line successfully scoring! In the end, Year 12 came away winners but the staff fought well.

The competition continued today with a Staff vs Year 12 Volleyball game at lunch time. A great turn out from students across the school. Unfortunately the staff went down by two sets, however it was a fantastic celebration of culture on display. We loved seeing our students cheering on and supporting one another.

These competitions have been a fitting way to farewell our Year 12 students. We're looking forward to the final round of games next Friday!

Year 9 Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) Incursion

Our Year 9 students enjoyed a virtual reality incursion this week by Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF). The purpose of this incursion was to demonstrate how MAF reach out to isolated communities, delivering practical and spiritual care to people in places of deepest human need. To this end, every few minutes, an MAF plane takes off or lands somewhere in the world. They currently have approximately 120 aircraft and serve in over 25 countries.

This incursion helped students understand the work of medical missions and the variety of careers available in this area. Students had the opportunity to undertake a virtual reality experience with a real-life medivac and get the feeling of what it would be like to be an MAF pilot in the skies over Papua New Guinea. Thank you to Kylie, Michelle and Alyssa from MAF for this wonderful opportunity!

Year 11 Biology Excursion

Last week, our Year 11 Biology students enjoyed an excursion to Long Neck lagoon where they learnt about microbats and carried out field investigations in the Long Neck Environment. The students were involved in measurement and practical activities throughout the day. One of the highlights was 'dip netting' which involved catching fish and other aquatic organisms and identifying them to determine the level of pollution in the area. We are thrilled that firstly, none of our students fell in the lagoon and secondly, that they excelled in their scientific investigations!
