Year 7 Medieval Day

Last week our Year 7 classes celebrated Medieval Day! Students began the day by participating in a show run by ‘James Adams Historic Enterprises’, where they examined medieval weaponry and tried on armour from various time periods. After this, students had the opportunity to join Mrs Truman in the kitchens, peeling potatoes and carrots, grinding herbs in a mortar and pestle and learning some fun and gruesome facts about life in the peasantry during the Medieval Era.

Students and teachers were also encouraged to wear costumes and we were delighted by their creativity. In particular, Amreen Mohal designed and created a floral peasant gown on her own! Students also had an opportunity to design their own shield and pieces of armour, adorned with their own personal coat of arms. This armour (along with some pool noodles) was used in ‘mock-jousting’ and for many students this was a highlight of the day.

We are hugely thankful to Mrs Truman, Mr Rose and Mr Gummerson for providing a banquet feast, complete with roast chicken and vegetables. While students were enjoying their meal, they were entertained by some of our staff donning replica armour and treating the students to a mock-duel which was both exciting and a fantastic opportunity to see medieval weaponry used in practice. Thank you to Mr Ng as our weapons expert who provided tips and the materials for this event.

All in all it was a great day and an excellent way to consolidate their learning in Year 7 History throughout this Term!

Secondary Book Week

We have loved seeing all our students from K - 12 involved in our Book Week celebrations this week, culminating in our Book Week Parade today.

Our Secondary students have also been involved in some literary competitions and activities throughout the week. Students were invited to create their own reimagined book cover, for a novel of their choosing. We are pleased to announce the winner is Lillian Dent in Year 7 for her book cover for ‘Solitaire’ (below). Lillian was awarded with a Dymocks voucher for her creativity!

Additionally, students were presented with a series of books selected by Secondary staff that were scattered around the school, as well as a list of teacher names. The goal was to match each book to the correct teacher. Congratulations to a team of Year 7 boys - Aayan Mishra, Ethan Quick and Neer Lalwani - for being the first students to do so correctly. The boys have also won a Dymocks voucher. Congratulations to all involved!

Year 12 Biology Excursion

Year 12 Biology visited The University of New South Wales on Friday 19 August. The students had the opportunity to check out the campus and the library, The Lowy Cancer Centre and then had a teaching and investigation session at the Museum of Disease. The students reflected that the Museum was a really interesting place, although it could be challenging and confronting as serious specimens are involved. Students found it really helpful for their studies of Year 12 Biology, Module 7 and 8 which involve infectious and non-infectious diseases.
