Secondary Learning Spotlight

Updated: Aug 12, 2022

Read more to hear about our Drama Club, a 'Cyber Safety' incursion for our Year 7 and 8 students with our Police Liaison Officer and the results from our Secondary Zone Athletics Carnival.

Senior Drama Club

Our Senior Students’ Drama Club meets on Tuesdays at 3:15pm under the direction of Mr Tomalaris. Students play games like ‘Viewpoints’, where they are given a word, phrase or idea, and five minutes to come up with a short skit in small groups that represents their interpretation of the concept. Students are encouraged to collaborate with one another, think quickly and act boldly.

Mr Tomalaris reflected that, “This group really teaches older kids how to play again. It shows them how to release their energy and creativity in a safe space and how to communicate and work collaboratively with one another.”

Many of the students have been in this club together since the beginning of the year, or from last year, and so they have formed a tight-knit, supportive community, building each other’s confidence and encouraging one another.

There is also a primary Drama Club that meets at Friday lunchtimes for any primary-aged students who are interested. If your children are interested in joining either of these clubs, please fill out the Clubs Registration form on the Parent Portal to sign up.

Year 7 and 8 Incursion - Police Liaison Officer

With the increased use of social media, the impact of isolation throughout lockdowns and the concerns around student safety online, our Secondary School has placed a focus on increased cyber safety awareness.

As part of our program this term, our local Police Liaison Officer, Senior Constable Ally Watts visited the College to run a session with our Stage 4 cohort. All Year 7 & 8 students had the opportunity to hear what some of the concerns are for young people and their online engagement. Students were able to ask questions, get current information and gain insight into the importance of taking ownership of their 'digital footprint' and how to exercise caution in the online world.

Each grade within secondary is involved in lessons throughout the term from the e-safety commissioner and other fantastic resources. We will be sending out some resources to families to support this growing concern within our school community.
