Secondary Swimming Carnival

We had a fantastic day at the Secondary Swimming Carnival on Monday! Our swimming carnivals are a great way to commence our House Competitions for the year, and we want to offer a warm congratulations to all our students who participated.

Some of the highlights of the day included the house cheer competition (where the Rams walked away the victors, led by Mrs Collins), the staff race (congratulations to Mr McGowan), and the opportunity to connect with so many of our Distance Education families.

Thank you to Mrs Tranter for her organisation and to the whole staff team for their efforts on the day. For a full list of results, please click here.

Technology and Applied Studies (TAS) Update

We have had a busy start to the year in the Technology and Applied Studies (TAS) department, in both our On Campus and Distance Education sub-schools.

We are thrilled to welcome Charlize Nel to the team this year as our Technology Technician. Charlize is a ACC graduate from 2022. She has made an outstanding contribution to the department already and it is a privilege to serve with her.

With an average of 25 students per food technology class she is washing at least 170 aprons per week! We appreciate her servant's heart.

Highlight: Year 11 Design & Technology with Mrs Aydin

One of the tasks our students have been given so far this year was focused on Photoshop skill development. The students were challenged to create an interior render mastering the use of layers and lighting realism. Students were provided with a scaffolded step by step outline to guide them through the different tools to insert colour, texture and pattern, and manipulate opacity.

The results were brilliant and varied with the personality of students shining through. A great example of the use of technology as a tool to achieve a desired outcome.

Year 7 World of Maths Incursion with Mr Luke Turner-Mann

On Monday of Week 4, students from Year 7 had the opportunity to take part in hands-on workshops hosted by World of Maths.

Students were encouraged to think about the applications of mathematics to all of their favourite pastimes. They then made their way, in small groups, through a circuit of 17 activities involving patterns, logic puzzles, and experimental activities, all fundamentally based on mathematical skills and principles.

Year 7 really enjoyed the small group environment, the hands-on activities, and the change of scene. It was encouraging to see students persevering on more challenging activities, learning to test and revise their answers, and working together with their peers.
