School Captains Invited to NSW Parliament
Last week our newly-elected College Captains, Bronte and Nathaniel, were invited by Kevin Conolly MP to attend the ‘Senior Youth Leadership Encounter’ at NSW Parliament House.
Students engaged in a leadership discussion with Rob Stokes (Member for Pittwater) and Kevin Connelly (Member for Riverstone) on the ‘what’ and ‘how’ of leadership. They were then able to tour NSW Parliament House before sitting in on Question Time in the NSW Legislative Assembly. This was a robust experience of politicians in debate and an important reminder of the process of holding our elected leaders to account.
Our Captains were inspired by what was seen and heard and will surely bring back some valuable lessons to share with their fellow Prefects and Year 12 cohort. Thank you to Mrs Aydin, our Stage 6 Coordinator, for accompanying our students and facilitating this experience.
Year 7 ‘Swim and Survive’ Program
Throughout Week 6, Year 7 students have had the opportunity to engage with the Swim and Survive program as part of their Personal Development, Health & Physical Education course. This program offered students an opportunity to learn and practise life-preserving water safety skills.
Whilst the weather varied across both days, Year 7 proudly battled the cooler water and positively participated within all activities to the best of their ability. Initially, students were tested on their 50 metre swimming ability, placed into groups and moved into a number of stations, all under the watchful eye of Miss Kat and her staff at ‘The Y’.
Students thoroughly enjoyed their chance to participate in a range of activities that built up their knowledge and skills within water environments including reach rescues, sculling and floating, safe water entries and the use of life jackets in emergency situations. Whilst there were many highlights, all students noted that their highlight was making a whirlpool as a group and then learning about rips and currents by trying to swim back against it. Overall, this day was a fantastic experience for all and an opportunity for building lifelong water safety skills.
Year 7 Mathematics - Measurement, Perspective and Probability
Towards the end of Term 4, Year 7 Mathematics classes have been learning about measurement, scales, floor plans and perspective.
Students had the opportunity to sketch the front and side views of the new Secondary building to use for a two-point perspective drawing. Some took a more artistic approach while others had great care for accuracy.
Students also had the opportunity to measure the gymnasium in order to create a scaled floor plan. They enjoyed measuring but had some more difficulty with producing the floor plan!
Throughout the term they have also been learning about the topic of Probability and one of the investigation projects that we explored is the application of probability tree diagrams. In this task, students had to choose their favourite fast food restaurant menu and create a probability tree diagram and share with their classmates the chance of a customer choosing one set of combinations. Well done to all our students for grasping these concepts so well!
Year 10 Celebration Dinner
Our Year 10 Celebration Dinner was a fantastic event. Thank you to Mrs Cavens and our staff team for organising this evening for our students. Our Year 10s were all dressed to impress and had a great time sharing fun memories with one another and their teachers, eating good food and breaking a sweat on the dance floor. For all the photos, please see our Australian Christian College Marsden Park Facebook page.
We are so excited to see this grade step into Stage 6 next year and help to lead and serve our College community.
HSC Viva Voces
Our Year 12 2023 Visual Arts students are off to a great start as they have presented their HSC Viva Voces this week to Miss Morrison and our new Visual Arts teacher, Ms Oloaga. Viva Voces is a short, in-depth interview between each student and their teacher about what they want to achieve in the HSC in regards to their Major Work. We can’t wait to see the brilliant pieces they produce over the next 12 months!
