Primary Nativity - Week 7 Assembly and ACC Carols
Mrs Melanie Woods
The Christmas season has definitely sprung at ACC. The classrooms are filling up with decorations and we have been singing carols and learning about the meaning of Christmas and the significance of the Nativity.
We want to invite you to our Week 7 Assembly where there will be a special Nativity performance where all students in Primary ACC are performing. We would also like to ask you to put the following date into your diaries as the College will be hosting a Carols event where all students in Primary will be performing again. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
Date: Tuesday 28 November
Time: Doors open at 6:30pm, Carols from 7:00pm - 9:00pm
What to wear for students: Jeans/long pants and a Christmas t-shirt
1K Health Lessons
Ms Grace Kwong
This term in our Health lessons, 1K have been learning about our sense of belonging to different groups, such as our family, school, sports team, or church. We also discussed that in these groups, we often work as a team. We had lots of fun playing team activities together and reminded each other about the importance of saying kind and encouraging words regardless of whether we win or lose.
The question is…Does the Bible say anything about teamwork? Yes it does! Our class learnt that God has some very important things to say to us about collaborating well with each other. For example in 1 Corinthians 12 it talks about how we are one body in Christ - just like how our body will need eyes, ears, nose, legs, arms in order to do its job properly. Every part of the body is needed just as everyone is equally important in 1K!
What I love most about our class is that every student is unique in God’s eyes and loved by Him. I’m so encouraged by the way 1K continues to care and love those around them with the unique gifts God has given them!
KR investigates 2D shapes
Ms Rebecca Branson
This week KR became detectives as we investigated the attributes of 2D shapes. God has blessed us with great minds that allow us to think in new and amazing ways and KR was ready to take on a new challenge of not only learning about the attributes of 2D shapes but also learning to draw them.
We began by reading a story about different shapes and worked hard to see how many we could name. KR navigated their way through the book with poise, successfully naming all the 2D shapes including circles, triangles, squares, rectangles, diamonds, hexagons and stars.
Next we looked at the attributes of these shapes to make discoveries about what things were similar and what things were different. We used a corner tester to help us measure the corners of different shapes to determine if they were the same or different. We learned that the corners of a square and rectangle are all the same and that they have four sides. Our next task was to then sort shapes by their characteristics such as straight sides, curved sides, corners or no corners.
Then we were ready for our next challenge of learning to draw 2D shapes in order to create a picture. KR used their whiteboards and markers to draw a truck using squares, rectangles and circles as well as a cat using rectangles, triangles, circles and semi circles. In order to extend and consolidate their learning of 2D shapes and to follow their interest in Christmas, we cut and pasted 2D shapes to create many different Christmas decorations such as Christmas trees, angels, snowmen, presents and Christmas crackers.
Learning in Kindergarten is so much fun! It has been such a joy watching this class grow into confident and engaged learners and embracing their God-given gifts and talents.
Primary Encounter
Mrs Melanie Woods
‘When do we get to sing and hang out together’ was the call of one of the Kinders as I walked past during recess. There was great excitement about the second Primary Encounter Event for the year.
The kids enjoyed the value of eating afternoon tea together with a shared purpose that we were all going to enjoy Encounter together. They loved the extra special time with their class teachers as well.
After refreshments, hundreds of students headed to the new building on the first floor to greet the live worship band who then led us with singing and dancing all the songs we have been learning throughout the year. We then broke up into small groups and prayed for each other and to ask Jesus to be the Lord and Saviour of our lives.
I think the most valuable moments of this event were the singing and worship of the children and staff, the prayer time and being together as a community, the spirit of togetherness. We want to thank Mrs Booker and the staff musicians for helping us to enjoy this event. Please enjoy the photos and loads of great memories that have been made.
Grade 6 Camp
Mrs Melanie Woods
What an amazing couple of days we had when all the Grade 6 students headed off to Canberra to enjoy the history, sights and sounds of the nation’s capital.
This was a time of bonding, growth and learning. The camp food and accommodation were amazing and it is hard to point out a highlight as all the events were engaging and made us proud and thankful to be in such a wonderful country.
The Mint, The War Memorial, Old and New Parliament House, NASA Station and of course, Questacon were just a few favourites to mention. We are thankful and wonderful moments were captured.
