PRIMARY SCHOOL UPDATE Miss Vivian Lee (Primary Community & Ministry Coordinator)
What a wonderful few weeks we have had in Primary! We are particularly thankful to have welcomed our new Head of Primary, Mrs Katy Brierley this fortnight.
In Chapel, we continued our Faith in Action series by learning from the story of Esther. We were reminded that we show we trust the God of the Bible by how we care for others in their time of need. Esther bravely acted to help her people, trusting God even when it was difficult. This is beautifully reflected in Esther 4:14 (NIV):
“And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”
We pray our students will continue to look for opportunities to put their faith into action by caring for and serving others.
Our Year 4 students also enjoyed a joyful two days away at Lake Macquarie Camp on Monday 24 and Tuesday 25 August. Students had a wonderful time canoeing, bushwalking and taking on the challenge course, while growing in confidence, friendship and independence. They also continued learning about Jesus and were reminded that even the wind and the waves obey Him!
We have also had a fantastic time celebrating Book Week! Our Author Talks on Thursday, Book Fair and Book Parade have provided wonderful opportunities to celebrate a love of reading and creativity. A huge thank you to our wonderful parent volunteers who helped make the Book Fair possible, and to all our parents who took the time to join us, dress up and celebrate with their children. Our Book Parade was a particular highlight, with so many wonderful costumes on display as we enjoyed celebrating together in the sunshine!
We are grateful for such a full and joyful term so far and look forward to all that is still to come in the weeks ahead.
MARSDEN BEAR’S ADVENTURES WITH KM Miss Charlie McManus
KM was overjoyed to hear that Marsden Bear was spending time with us in our classroom! He has joined us for many exciting lessons and has been an eager participant in all of our learning. We finished learning the last letter and corresponding sound ‘y’ to complete the alphabet in InitiaLit this week and Marsden Bear joined us in reading new words and books with this sound!
KM put on their dancing shoes to sing praises to the God of the Bible last Tuesday at Dan Warlow’s concert. We learnt all about the story of Jesus and how we can trust Him with our worries because He is so big and loves us so much. Marsden Bear was very encouraged by this reminder and had so much fun dancing and singing songs with KM about growing like trees planted in the Lord and jumping for joy because Jesus is King.
Marsden Bear joined KM for the library, where he learnt from KM what it means to be respectful and safe learners in the library. He even enjoyed getting to browse some books to borrow!
Friday’s in KM are filled with fun as we get to put into action our Maths learning from the week with Maths rotations. Marsden Bear joined KM in being courageous learners during these maths rotations, as he learnt all about halving a quantity and what it means for something to be nearly full or nearly empty. Marsden Bear also had fun joining KM for us in our imaginative play time on Friday. He helped us to create a tower using 3D objects and even ordered a milkshake from ‘Cafe KM’.

MARSDEN BEAR’S ADVENTURES WITH 4G Mrs Amy Gruszka
4G loved sharing so many adventures with Marsden Bear over these last two busy weeks! He certainly picked an exciting fortnight to join us, with plenty of learning, celebrations and even our long-anticipated Year 4 Camp!
Marsden Bear firstly joined 4G for the Dan Warlow concert, where we had a wonderful time singing, dancing and praising God together. It was a joyful afternoon filled with music and a great reminder of God’s love for us.
One of our biggest adventures was Year 4 Camp at Lake Macquarie! Marsden Bear came along as 4G stepped outside their comfort zones, explored the great outdoors and enjoyed being out in the bush. From canoeing and bushwalking, to team challenges, there were plenty of opportunities to show courage, perseverance and teamwork.
Back at school, the excitement continued with Book Week! Marsden Bear joined us for our special author talks, where we heard about the wonderful world of books and storytelling from author Kathryn Joy MacDowall. Of course, he also had a front-row seat to our Book Week Parades, where 4G proudly showed off their fantastic costumes and celebrated some of their favourite characters and stories.
It has certainly been an action-packed two weeks! We loved having Marsden Bear along for all the learning, laughter and adventure. Just like 4G, we think he is more than ready for a well-earned weekend of rest!
