HEAD OF SCHOOL UPDATE Melanie Woods
Years 3-4 CAPA Showcase Thank you parents and families for coming to the College and supporting our students at the Years 3-4 CAPA Showcase! This performance was a valuable opportunity for our students to practise their performing skills. It also created a chance for our students to contextualise their learning. I was thrilled with their organisation, calm presences, sweet voices and groovy sounds from their recorders. Join me in thanking our Years 3 & 4 class teachers and our music teacher for encouraging our young performers and teaching wonderful creative things!
Borrowing Books at our Library The College Library continues to be a lively place of learning! It is always a highlight in our students’ week, and a great privilege to be able to borrow books. There is nothing more exciting than reading a book and knowing you can get another new book filled with adventure the following week. Our desire is for our students to have a love of reading and we certainly enjoy using the Library resources.
A reminder that in order to borrow, students must have their ACC Library Bag.
Family Showcases This week, our Primary School hosted a Kinder - Year 2 Family Showcase, where our students and staff were excited to welcome parents and families into the classrooms. Showcases are an opportunity for families to come and enjoy what happens in the classroom. The students had amazing work to present and share with their families. In the classes, our teachers demonstrated what Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI) looks like, and parents witnessed how this supports our students' learning.
We look forward to our Years 3-6 Family Showcase happening next week, on Thursday 26 June from 1.40 pm to 2.40 pm. Please arrive with enough time to park off site and walk to your child's classroom.
Primary Parent / Teacher Interviews SAVE THE DATE - Tuesday 29 July
On Tuesday 29 July we are holding Kinder - Year 6 Parent / Teacher Interviews. Parents will have the opportunity to meet with their child's teachers throughout the evening. To arrange a booking a link will be sent to parents and carers before the end of the term.
Assemblies, Chapels and Dan Warlow A reminder that our Assemblies and Chapels are held every Monday. We encourage our parents and families to attend.
In exciting news, in the first week of Term 3, Primary Assembly has been rescheduled to Wednesday 30 July as we will be hosting the amazing entertainer and gospel singer Dan Warlow. For those who saw Dan last year, you will know he is a delight to watch. We invite you to this wonderful opportunity to hear a brilliant musician and entertainer.
‘I See You, Star’ Morning Tea Every Face has a Place at ACC! We continue to encourage students that we know them and that we see them. We want the students to know that we see when they are kind, showing respect, being willing to learn, make Christ-like decisions and when they make wise and safe choices. To celebrate their hard work and efforts, select students are invited to attend an I See You, Star Morning Tea each week, hosted by Mr Parsonage, the Stage Coordinators and myself (Mrs Woods). This is an opportunity to spend quality time with them, thank them, and congratulate them for their good work!
The following students have been given an I See You, Star Award and attended the Morning Tea over the last two weeks:

Term Break Approaching We are heading into our last two weeks of Term 2 - how exciting! Our students are familiar with the concept of ending well, as we reinforce its importance at the end of each lesson and school day. Every day we have with them is precious and we are continually fostering opportunities for students to create great memories and increase their love of learning. As this time approaches, we pray that you have a rich time together and enjoy every moment of the holidays. Our last day of Term 2 is Friday 4 July and our first day of Term 3 is Monday 28 July. We look forward to seeing our students back in Winter formal uniform on Monday 28 July.
Uniform We love our College uniform and encourage the children to take pride in how they are presenting themselves at school. Parents and carers, please ensure all apparel is labelled, so that we can return lost items to their correct homes! We appreciate when students hand in clothing they have mistakenly taken as their own. I so appreciate how diligent our staff and students are in ensuring they return lost items.
A reminder to also follow our College’s Uniform Guide to ensure only the correct uniform is worn (please note that ‘extra’ clothing items may not be in line with our guide). If you are unsure, please feel free to contact the Primary Student Hub and we can happily assist with answering your questions. Additionally, black leather lace up shoes are required all year round ( Mary Jane buckled shoes are not permitted). Lastly, Term 3 continues to be formal winter uniform and winter sports uniform.
KK WRITING ACTIVITIES Nancy Hassaraty
Our little learners have been on a wonderful journey this term in KK, discovering what it means to be a writer! Through our learning sequence Learning the Steps to Becoming a Writer and the Elements of a Sentence students have been exploring how to think, speak, hear, write, and even draw their ideas.
A phrase we often use in class which helps guide this process is “If I can think it, I can speak it; if I can speak it, I can hear it; if I can hear it, I can write it; if I can write it, I can draw it; and if I can write and draw it, I can read it!”
Our focus has been developing foundational writing skills such as sounding out words, using finger spaces, including tricky words, and finishing sentences with full stops. The children have been practising these skills through sentence scramble sheets, writing in their workbooks, and using whiteboards to construct full sentences. We’ve been learning that a good sentence begins with a capital letter, moves from left to right, includes proper letter formation and finger spacing, ends with punctuation, and most importantly, expresses a complete thought.
We have also been learning to write recounts by sharing what we did on the weekend in our Weekend Writing time. The children practise writing about personal experiences, using sentence starters like “On the weekend, I...” It’s been lovely to hear about their weekend adventures and watch them express their ideas in writing. In addition, we have been practising how to construct sentences by looking at pictures. Students engage in class discussions where we brainstorm what they observe in the image, and then they independently write sentences about it. It is encouraging to see some students writing three sentences while others are working hard to write one complete sentence. Each child progresses at their own pace, and we celebrate their growth and effort!
Through daily practice, our students are joyfully embracing each step and growing into confident, capable young writers. It has been a true joy to watch this class grow into engaged learners, embracing their God-given talents with enthusiasm and care.
Thank you for your continued support. It is a privilege to walk alongside your children as they find their voices and grow in the joy of learning. We are so proud of how far they’ve come!
