PRIMARY SCHOOL UPDATE Miss Vivian Lee (Primary Community & Ministry Coordinator)
Primary School has continued to learn, explore, and grow together as a community. We are thankful for the many opportunities we have had to encourage students not only in their learning, but also in their understanding of who Jesus is and what it means to follow Him.
This fortnight, our Kindergarten to Year 6 students gathered together for National Simultaneous Storytime. We were absolutely delighted to welcome Mr Corr, who read this year's featured book, Luna Roo, to the children. It was a wonderful time of shared storytelling that sparked imagination and brought our entire primary community together to celebrate the joy of reading.
Compassion Changemakers Launch Day An exciting highlight on the horizon is our Compassion Changemakers Launch Day, coming up this Monday 15 June. This special event marks the launch of our ongoing partnership with Compassion Australia, an opportunity that allows our students to look beyond themselves and think about how they can serve a wider global community.
Students will consider the following: "Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine." (Isaiah 43:1)
We look forward to seeing our students engage with what it means to be a "changemaker" under Jesus, learning how practical actions, prayer and generosity can make a profound difference in the lives of children around the world, all while rooted in the secure truth that they are known and loved by the God of the Bible.
ACADEMIC REPORTS AND PARENT/TEACHER INTERVIEWS Shawn Parsonage
Very soon, families will be receiving a Semester 1 Academic Report for their children.
A standards-referenced approach is used to report student achievement in NSW. Achievement standards are based on what students are expected to learn and how well they have achieved these expectations.
The NSW syllabuses state the intended learning for students by the end of each year level. Teachers make professional judgements to decide which grade description best matches the standards their students have achieved at a particular point in time. These decisions are based on evidence of achievement and information teachers have collected during the teaching and learning process.
Following a recent change by the NSW Government to their ‘C’ Grade wording, ACC has amended this to the word ‘competent’ to help parents understand better their children's achievements in the academic report.
Where a student receives a ‘competent’ grading, this typically means that a student's knowledge and understanding of the subject matter is at the expected level for their grade. It indicates they have a good grasp of the key concepts and can apply the required skills.
Achieving a ‘B’ or ‘A’ grade is harder to achieve, and students who achieve this should typically be performing above their grade level when receiving this result.
MARSDEN BEAR’S ADVENTURES WITH 3G Mrs Tess Graham-Chubb
This fortnight, 3G has been busy exploring exciting learning in Geography.
Over the last two weeks, students have become architects and designers as they created their own dream homes. They carefully considered different habitats and environments before designing a home that would suit the needs of the people living there. Students then justified their design choices by explaining how particular features would help people live comfortably within their chosen habitat.
We were delighted to welcome a special visitor, Marsden Bear, who stopped by to see our learning in action! He was impressed by the creativity, problem-solving skills and thoughtful explanations demonstrated by the students.
We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and effort 3G continues to show in all areas of learning.
