Primary School Update - 1 March 2024

Read more to hear about our Primary Parent/Teacher Interviews, updates from past and upcoming events, and learning highlights from Year 1, Year 4 and Year 6.

K-6 Parent/Teacher Interviews

Mrs Melanie Woods

Thank you parents and carers for supporting the Parent/Teacher Interviews last Monday evening. We are so grateful that so many came to share and hear about how their child has been settling into school. Our first Parent/Teacher Interviews for the Year always focuses on the parent telling us all there is to know about their child so we can get to know them more. Our teachers' time slots were completely full and the place was a hive of activity as everyone leant into and partnered together, with the common goal of making sure we provide the best start and opportunities for our kids to grow, be inspired, love school and continue to grow a desire to be life-long learners.

'I See You Star' Primary Morning Teas

Mrs Melanie Woods

‘Every Face has a Place’ at ACC and we continue to embed into the lives of all our students the knowledge that we know them, that we see them. We want the students to know that we see their kindness, we see them being respectful, we see when they are learners, we see when they make Christ-like decisions and when they make wise and safe choices. To celebrate their hard work and efforts, students are invited to attend an ‘I See You Star’ Morning Tea each week, which is hosted by Mr Parsonage and myself. This is an opportunity to spend quality time with them, and to thank and congratulate them for their good work.

Below are the students who have recently been given an ‘I See You Star Award’ and attended the Morning Tea:

Primary Ministry

Mrs Vivian Booker

My name is Vivian, and it is my joy to look after the Ministry in Primary. We have started Term 1 with our three Jesus Over Lunch Time (JOLT) groups: UP JOLT (Years 5 & 6), Junior JOLT (Years 3 & 4) and Mini JOLT (Years 1 & 2). We praise God for the enthusiasm and interest we’ve received, with over 230 students across all three groups attending each week. We are looking at a series called ‘Meals with Jesus’, with students engaging deeply with a story from the book of Luke where Jesus shares a meal with someone.

Additionally, our Primary Chapel has started up again! We kindly invite all parents, family and carers of our Primary students to come and join us each Monday fortnight for our Chapel service (our next Chapel is on Monday 11 March). This term, we are looking at a series called ‘Secret Agents’ as we discover the evidence for who Jesus is through the book of Luke. We have loved singing to the God of the Bible and hearing what He has to say to us.

Please continue to pray for our K-6 students as they engage personally with who Jesus is, and for our wonderful teachers and family who support them.

Year 1 Literacy Exercises

Mrs Sarah Roberts

Our Year 1 students have been learning how to write about things that have already happened to us in the past, in the form of a recount. This week they worked hard to write about the amazing time they had at the gymnastics sports program. They thought about when gymnastics was, where it was, what they did there and who they went with. Some students even challenged themselves to use excellent sequencing words like "firstly", "then", "next" and "finally". Year 1 are working on being courageous learners who always try their best, even when the task is difficult. They are getting better every time they write!

Year 6 Storytelling

Mr Danny Somanader

In a cosy classroom nestled within the bustling school corridors, a group of Year 6S students embarked on an extraordinary journey of storytelling. Armed with imagination and guided by the 7 Steps to Writing techniques, their narratives began to unfold like magic.

It all started with a spark—an idea that ignited the minds of these young wordsmiths. With the first step, they delved into brainstorming, scribbling down concepts that danced in the corridors of their minds. Excitement filled the air as characters, settings, and plotlines took shape.

Next came the planning phase, where intricate plots were woven and characters developed depth. Pens raced across paper as the students outlined their tales, each word carrying the promise of adventure.

Then, armed with vibrant descriptions and dialogue, they ventured into the realm of drafting. The classroom hummed with quiet concentration as stories poured forth, each one as unique as the student who penned it.

Revisions followed, as they polished their narratives to perfection. With each edit, their stories shone brighter, reflecting the dedication and effort poured into their craft.

Finally, the moment arrived when they proudly shared their creations. With eager hearts, they listened to each other's tales, celebrating the power of imagination and the joy of storytelling.

As the final pages turned, the classroom buzzed with accomplishment. Through the 7 Steps to Writing techniques, these students had unlocked a world of creativity, discovering the magic that lies within their own words. And so, their journey continues, fueled by the boundless possibilities of the written word.

Year 4 Biblical Studies

Mrs Molly Stanley

In Biblical Studies, 4S roleplayed the story of Peter and his friends fishing in the hope of catching some fish. This would help them financially to pay their taxes to the Roman Emperor that oppressed them at the time. Students from 4S roleplayed this biblical narrative by showcasing how distraught the fisherman would have been after catching no fish after hours upon hours of fishing tirelessly. Following the biblical narrative, students demonstrated Jesus approaching the fishermen and asking them to "throw the net on the other side".

Much to their annoyance, they followed the simple instruction and were blown away with a BIG catch, a LARGE miracle. Jesus not only provided for them financially but gave them a higher calling, to be fisher of men, to call lost men and women back to God and to accept Jesus as their Lord. Following this, 4S wrote text messages to express the greatness of this miracle.

Excerpts below:

"Mrs Stanley you won’t believe it. Today this guy named Jesus came up to me and my friends I said please help us we have been fishing for ages and he said ok all you have to do is throw your fishing net on the other side of the boat. So, I did and we got loads of fish I can finally afford tax!" (Braydan N.)

"Tanvik, you won’t believe this miracle that JUST happened to me! So, you know that I couldn’t catch any fish for dinner last night, sadly we had to starve . Then while me and my crew were going to leave, this Jesus, guy was coming up to us and told us to fish on the other side… then we did exactly what this Jesus told me! Then the miracle… we fished the other side, and guess what? 153 fishes we caught, like 153…! Thank you " (Hrishika P.)
