Year 6 (6M) 'When You Know Your Craft' with Mrs Mellado
Teaching is a very daunting experience when the teacher is not as skilled as others, particularly in the fine arts. The students’ work testifies to this reality! But when God provides a substitute who has the skills and talent to teach, the grateful teacher knows to harness God’s provision so that her students’ own gifts and talents are drawn out and reflected upon the pages of their art books.
Last term, the students in 6M were extremely blessed to be taught art (their favourite subject) by the very talented student-teacher, Mr. Alex Kwok. He taught the students to draw optical art, which was inspired by Bridget Riley, as well as three dimensional objects and dreamlike images inspired by Vladimir Kush. This term, Mr. Kwok is helping the 6M students to complete their portraits for the ACC Portraiture Prize competition. It has been a great reminder that God gifts us all differently and glorifies Himself through our gifts.
Year 2 (2B) - The 3 Rs with Mrs Booker
This term, 2B have been learning about our 3Rs - our Rights, Responsibilities and Rules! We learnt that God created humans in His image (Genesis 1:27) and wants us to love others because He loves others (1 John 4:19).
This is all in light of our CHRIST values:
C - Courage
H - Humility
R - Respect
I - Initiative
S - Self-Control
T - Trust
Our favourite phrase has been YOYOB - You Own Your Own Behaviour. We had lots of fun thinking about what it looks like to love others. Please enjoy looking at some of our “right way” and “wrong way” photos, and watching us perform our CHRIST Values Chant to remind us of how Jesus Christ sets the best example of how to love others with our words, actions and heart!
Our Rights in the Classroom:
Year 1 (1K) ‘Whole Body Listening’ with Miss Kwong
Miss Kwong’s class has been discussing ‘whole body listening’ over the past couple of weeks. They brainstormed what it means to be a good listener and came up with some great ideas!
‘Whole body listening’ includes: our brain thinking, eyes watching, mouth quiet, body calm, ears listening and legs crossed. This week the students came up with a behaviour goal to sit with their legs crossed during in-class learning time. You can see from the photo that they did a fantastic job!
Kindergarten (KL) Music with Mrs Turner
This week, our Kindergarten students had a great time with Mrs Turner in their music class - playing with bells, learning about rhythm and how to move their bodies and instruments in time with the beat. Please enjoy this video of their beautiful rendition of ‘Fresh Fruit Salad’. They will also be performing next Monday 15 August at Primary Assembly at 9am - parents are welcome to attend!
Year 3 (3G) The Writing Revolution with Miss Green
Every week our students are provided with a new and exciting sentence task, based on the professional development our teachers received on ‘The Writing Revolution’. This week in 3G, students have been working on how to unscramble and identify ‘delicious sentences’. Miss Green gives the students a scrambled sentence and the video below demonstrates how students work through the process and discuss what makes a ‘good’ sentence, and how they can write their own.
Primary Chapel
We want to remind you that every Monday morning, parents are welcome to attend Primary Chapel or Assembly, starting at 9:00am. These services always include a student performance and an overview of one of our ‘Student Attributes’, plus they are a great opportunity for parents to see and hear what students are learning about and to say hello to your child’s teacher. We hope to see you there!
