Primary Art
What a joy it has been to see the creativity and talent shown by the students in 2D, 4M and 6S this term.
In 2D the students have enjoyed painting with primary and secondary colours and exploring how to mix colour too. They have also been really engaged in History as they learn about life in the past, presenting about past toys and playing old playground games.
In 4M we have emulated the artworks of Marz Jnr, drawing amazing buildings and landmarks using different materials.
6S have been learning about the artists Reg Mombassa, Grace Cossington Smith and Ken Done. The students have created amazing artworks using the techniques and styles of these famous artists. They have demonstrated such perseverance and diligence and I have loved watching them celebrate each other's successes as they share their artworks with each other.
Primary Science & Technology
It has been a busy term in our Science and Technology department, with a number of topics being studied across the grades.
Kindergarten have been learning about the weather, so be sure to ask them for next week's forecast! Year 2 students have been learning about living things and their features, while Year 1 students have focused on materials and how they can be manipulated.
Year 5 students have learned about forces, particularly gravity, air resistance, and buoyancy. Years 3, 4 and 6 have learned about energy and how it can be transferred from one type to another. I think we may have some budding electrical engineers in our midst!
Year 1 Music with Mrs Thomson
Throughout this term, Year 1 students have been developing their understanding of music theory concepts such as pitch, tempo, rhythm and beat. They have had a fantastic time growing their musical skills on the glockenspiels, boomwhackers and claves, playing songs such as Shake It, Latin Alive and Twisted.
This term students have particularly developed their performance skills as they prepared to sing Solfege and play glockenspiels at the Musical Showcase. Students have enjoyed spending time each lesson exploring a musical composition titled “Peter and the Wolf”, composed by Sergei Prokofiev, which introduces young people to the instruments in the orchestra. It has been so wonderful to see students encouraging one another as they continue to experience music in all its fantastic forms.
Primary Music with Miss Harris
It is a proven fact that music education improves brain function, motor skills and social skills increases confidence and allows students to express themselves. At ACCMP, students have the opportunity to delve into this creative world every week.
Whether it is singing and moving in Kindergarten, learning solfege to aid in reading music in stage one, playing harmonies on the glockenspiel in stage two or exploring chords and playing them on the ukulele in stage three - it's all happening in our primary classrooms.
Only recently, the students' skills and talents were showcased in two concerts where parents, friends, teachers and students were WOWed by singing, signing, boomwhackers, glockenspiels and ukuleles. As well as learning to read and play music, students are exposed to different genres of music, composers and artists from the Baroque and Classical Eras to Swing and Bebop Jazz to help develop an eclectic music appreciation.
Interschool Sport
The Soccer, Netball and T-Ball Interschool Sports Teams demonstrated a thrilling showcase of sportsmanship and talent over their seven week competition. Versing teams from Richard Johnson Anglican School Oakhurst, Richard Johnson Anglican School Marsden Park, Tyndale Christian School and Toongabbie Christian School, our teams gave it their all, leaving us in awe.
The senior Netball Team remained undefeated, displaying flawless execution, while the Junior Netball Team won three of their games. Miss Wallace, the coach of our Netball Teams, beams with pride as she reflects on the remarkable achievements of her players. Their dedication, hard work, and unwavering spirit have made her immensely proud of their accomplishments on the court.
Coached by Elijah Mthembu, our Senior Soccer Team got better and better throughout the season. They showed unwavering commitment winning three of their games and drawing two, whilst the Junior Soccer Team, coached by Mrs Mitton, exemplified great sportsmanship and teamwork, winning five games, drawing one and losing one. Mrs Mitton was shocked by the extraordinary talent displayed by her young players on the field.
Mr Vlok, who coached the Senior and Junior T-ball teams, advised that it was a pleasure to take the T-ball teams each week. Our T-ball teams showcased their skills and represented our school well. The senior team had an impressive record of five wins, one loss, and a draw, while the junior team fought hard, securing three wins.
The beautiful weather added to the excitement, and the support from parents created a vibrant atmosphere. Let's celebrate the achievements of all our teams, not just in wins and losses, but in the friendships forged and lessons learned. They've made us proud, and we can't wait to see what they accomplish in the future!
I See You Stars
Our Primary School has an exciting initiative of competition between our houses - Rams, Eagles, Lions and Brumbies. Students who are showing our 5 Attributes are rewarded with an "I See You Star" for their house.
The competition is quite fun and lighthearted between our students and it is so exciting to see students surprised when they are awarded a star for something they didn't even realise was an attribute, or for doing something that they didn't even think anyone has seen.
Our Attributes are considered behaviours that we would like all our students strive for: such as being Christ-like, Safe, Respectful, Encouraging and Courageous.
The tally is counted every Friday and sent to the teachers to announce to their class on Friday afternoons.
I have given out I See You Stars for helping a friend up when they fell down - being Christ-like, for being courageous with a speech in front of others when they were scared - courageous, for picking up rubbish in the playground without being asked - encouraging, for assisting a Kindy student through the playground to the Care Centre when injured - safe, and for using their manners and politeness when requesting something - being respectful.
Here is where our tally is at currently:
We look forward to the competition continuing in Term 3!
