Update from 1R
We have had such a busy week in 1R! We have been trying our best to use the clever brains and the loving hearts that God has blessed us with to do our best learning and to treat our friends kindly.
In our literacy time, we have been learning how bossy ‘e’ tells the vowel to change its sound, from a short sound to a long sound. We have been reading and writing words and sentences with lots of bossy ‘e’s!
During writing time, we have been writing in a way that tells our reader our point of view – what we believe in our heart. We have been practicing thinking of and writing three convincing reasons that support our opinions and using connective words like ‘firstly’, ‘secondly’ and ‘lastly’.
In maths we have been thinking about how likely certain events are and asking questions like, “Will it definitely happen?”. We have had fun thinking of lots of examples!
In sport, we have been learning fundamental movement skills like hopping, skipping, and galloping. We have used those skills to play lots of games. Some of our favourites have been “Red light, green light” and “Scissors paper rock hoops”.
The highlight of the week for many of us is art. This term we have been learning all about colour. We have investigated primary colours and have used them to create secondary colours. This week we have continued learning about warm and cool colours. We have looked at artworks by famous artists like Van Gogh and Monet to see how they used warm and cool colours to create effect and mood. We know that our creator God delights in our creativity. We have been creative in response to what we have learned, drawing a picture of sunbeams shining down on the ocean and using warm and cool coloured oil pastels to create our own artwork.
In our devotion time and Biblical Studies lessons, we have loved hearing about the ordinary people God chose in the Old Testament to do amazing things as part of God’s plan to save all people. We particularly loved hearing about Jacob’s twelve sons and dressing up as Ruth, Naomi, Orpah and Boaz to act out the story of King David’s great grandmother. We are thankful to our loving Heavenly Father for blessing us so richly every day. We love learning and playing with our friends at ACC!
Year 2 Blessing Cards
Year 2 made some “Blessing Cards” this week as a gift for someone who is significant to them. We hope you enjoy these beautiful photos!
Primary Music Concert
It was such a delight to hear our Primary students showcase their talents at our Primary Music Concert last week! Cheered on by their family and friends, our students performed a variety of musical items that they had carefully rehearsed through the year so far.
We are so proud of all the students for their courage and enthusiasm, as they sang, strummed ukeleles, and played boomwhackers and xylophones. We were thoroughly entertained and a big thank you to Ms Harris, Mrs Neave, Mrs Thomson and Mr Alldis for their musical training, sound and media skills. What budding musicians we have at ACC!
Primary Classroom Showcase
Yesterday, our Families and Carers came into the classrooms to see how our teachers teach and an example of what happens in a lesson. It was a joy to have so many of our families see the amazing work that our teachers and students have completed over the course of Term 2.
The teacher demonstrated a lesson and showcased students' work, with an explanation of the specific teaching pedagogies we use in our classes.
At ACC we have three ‘Signature Pedagogies’ which are:
Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI) - strategically planned lessons that explicitly teach new concepts to mastery.
Explicit Frequent Feedback (EFF) - designed to plan the next steps towards achieving learning goals. Providing frequent and ongoing feedback is significant to improve achievement in learning and assist the learner to reflect on their learning.
The Writing Revolution (TWR) - which is thinking through writing
The Showcase ended with Parent/Student quizzes and games and the families enjoying the ‘I See You Wall’ which is where weekly work is hung up for every child.
We look forward to seeing you at our next Showcase event in Week 9, Term 3!
