Our grade 3 - 6 students have been having a great time in term 2 learning new skills in Sport/PE.
This term, students have been assigned to teams that participate in soccer, teeball, dance and netball. Some of these groups get to play against other local Christian Schools in a fun competition.
The students have been very excited to develop new skills and fine tune their craft. They enjoy playing outdoors in the fresh air, the interaction amongst the grades and having to work as a ‘team’ relying, trusting and encouraging each other.
We have added some photos of grades 3 - 6 practicing at ACC Marsden Park with their coaches getting ready for some ‘real’ games. Don’t forget to ask your child(ren) what they enjoy and what have they learnt as they progress through the term in regards to their Sport Day on Wednesdays!
Science with Mr Alldis - Friction experiment with interleaved books
Our Year 3 students have been learning about physical forces this term. Recently, they have been investigating the power of friction!
Friction is a force that is present whenever two surfaces meet, causing movement to slow down or stop. They started with two books about the same size and at first, only interleaved a few pages and observed that they could pull the books apart easily. However, when many pages of the books were interwoven, no matter how hard they tried, they couldn't separate the books. The more pages that are interleaved, the more the force multiplies until it can't be overcome with pure muscle alone!
This is a fun experiment to try at home with your children, although a warning that some enthusiastic kids may accidentally rip the book covers in their attempt to pull them apart, so maybe don't use your favourite novels!
