This week we are introducing you to Philip Finau, a member of our Utilities & Transport Team.
Tell us a bit about yourself - your background, experience, when did you start at ACC and what is your role?
I have spent the past 14 years working in Military and Security Operations. My roles and responsibilities in these fields varied but included instructing, training and leading recruits and trainees.
While I was still in my previous role, I would see billboards and Facebook ads for Australian Christian College, and felt that my skills could be put to greater use in a workplace like this, and the need and desire to serve was heavy in my heart.
Since joining ACC Marsden Park six months ago, I can see that God has a purpose for me here, and I enjoy working as a Bus Driver, helping with College events, and assisting staff members however I can as they serve the next generation.
What do you love about your job?
There are so many things I love about ACC. First, the amazing staff who are diligent, team-focused and motivated with a positive attitude and energy. Second, driving our wonderful students each day and knowing that God has great plans for each one of them.
ACC is a school that is focused on the Bible and prayer, and I love that our staff team spends time in Devotions each morning. This time is an opportunity to listen to God’s Word, reflect, pray and be humble in His presence. I love that every staff member here is orientated towards Christ and loves to serve.
What does a typical day look like for you, and what is coming up that you are looking forward to?
A typical day starts with driving one of our ACC buses to pick up students, then being involved and various activities and projects throughout the school, whether it’s assisting our Administration or Maintenance teams, or setting up an event. Then I finish my day with the home bus run.
There are many exciting things ahead for the College - I am particularly excited for the Tech Building to open. Rumour has it that as well as all the exciting tech spaces, there is also a cafe of the highest order in the works, and I can’t wait for that!
God is moving powerfully at this school. It’s a pleasure to serve amongst brothers and sisters in Christ who share similar goals and aspirations.
