This week we are introducing you to one of our Year 6 teachers who is new to ACC Marsden Park this year, Mr Daniel Gough.
Tell us a bit about yourself - your background, experience, when did you start at ACC and what is your role?
My mother, a dedicated teacher, instilled in me a deep appreciation for education and a passion for helping others learn and grow. Inspired by her commitment, I embarked on a career in teaching, and for the past 15 years, I have been fortunate to work for the Department of Education.
My journey took an exciting turn when I was blessed with the opportunity to join ACC in Term 2 and be part of their remarkable God-centred environment. Working in such a faith-based setting has brought a whole new level of purpose and fulfilment to my profession, allowing me to integrate my love for teaching with my spiritual beliefs. It’s an incredible privilege to contribute to the lives of students within this inspiring community. This year, I am teaching 6M with the goal of preparing them for high school and nurturing their growth as leaders within the school community.
Outside of work, my greatest joy comes from spending quality time with my wife and our two children, Leo and Alice. We often embark on family adventures, exploring the great outdoors through bush walks as well as visiting various playgrounds.
What do you love about your job?
I love helping my students unlock their potential and empowering them to become the individuals they aspire to be. Witnessing their growth and seeing their dreams come to fruition is a constant reminder of why I am so passionate about teaching. It also brings me immense joy to be part of a team of dedicated staff who share a common goal of nurturing young minds.
What are some of the big projects that you are working on with your class?
Throughout Term 2, our classroom has been immersed in a diverse range of engaging and thought-provoking topics. We delved into the exploration of personal identity to understand what makes each of us unique. Our studies also took us on a journey through Australian history, with a particular focus on the novels, Walking the Boundaries and Refuge; by Jackie French, which provided invaluable insights into our nation’s past.
Additionally, we explored Australian artworks and their profound influence on shaping our culture, allowing us to appreciate the rich artistic heritage of our country.
This term, we are thrilled to be embarking on a trip to Canberra for our camp, where we will have the opportunity to delve even deeper into our nation’s capital and immerse ourselves in its rich historical and cultural significance. The anticipation is building, and we eagerly look forward to the incredible experiences and new discoveries that await us!
