This week we are introducing you to Mrs Katherine Grech, one of our Kindergarten teachers.
Tell us a bit about yourself - your background, experience, when did you start at ACC and what is your role?
Growing up, I used to play ‘Teachers’ with my dolls as my students, and as I got older, I had opportunities to teach Sunday school, timbrels and dance groups at my church. So when I graduated school, I knew I was already passionate about becoming a teacher. I received my Bachelors from Macquarie University and have taught for the past six years in a variety of department schools around Sydney, but this is my first year at ACC. I am blessed to teach the Kindergarten students in KG and I also look after the Primary Drama group.
Outside of work, I love being a mum to my toddler, Alexander and we love going on adventures to the park, exploring the great outdoors and taking our dog Bailey for a walk. I also enjoy going to cafes and ordering a hot chocolate as I don't drink coffee.
What do you love about your job?
There are so many things I love about my job! I love coming to school every day and seeing big smiles on the students' faces. I love how warm everyone is in the school, they always say hello and smile at one another. A highlight for me is hearing our students sing their hearts out at Chapel services. I love being able to pray with my class and teach them about our wonderful God.
What are some of the big projects happening this Term that you are working on with your class?
This term, KG have been learning how to play the timbrel. I grew up in the Salvation Army, so I had the privilege to learn the timbrel as a little girl. Mrs Woods and Mr Corr insisted I teach KG students and create a timbrel performance for them to learn. They have been working so hard on learning different beats and movements and I can't wait to see the final performance. Stay tuned!
