This week we are introducing you to Mr Ben Green, one of the Ministry Leaders at ACC Marsden Park. Mr Green works out of our Care Centre, which has newly opened at our College this year and seeks to support holistic student wellbeing.
Tell us a little bit about yourself - what is some of your background or experience?
I have worked with kids and teenagers for the majority of my adult life. I was a swim instructor for many years, and heavily involved in youth ministry. For the past six years I have been employed as the Discipleship Pastor at my church, which I continue to this day. I studied a Bachelor of Theology at Morling College for three years and loved the opportunity to be equipped to serve in ministry and to learn how to think theologically.
Why are you passionate about your role as Ministry Leader at ACC?
The opportunity this role provides to really get to know students and engage in faith based conversations and lessons is something I never want to take for granted. I consider myself so lucky to be able to chat openly and freely about our faith and see students begin to ask the big, and sometimes tough, questions.
Nothing excites me more than a student finally coming to grasp something of who Jesus is and what he means for our lives. I believe this generation has so many competing voices constantly vying for their allegiance, and yet in the midst of it all, we get to proclaim Jesus is king and that he has a better way! What an opportunity!
What is the focus and approach of the Ministry team and program? What difference does it make for students who are involved?
Our approach is very relational. One of the ways this shows itself is through our weekly Junior and Senior JOLT program for Secondary school. We create a safe, fun environment for students to come and have real conversations about faith.
My personal hope for JOLT this year is to see patterns of living established in our Christian students that will help them be formed in the likeness of Jesus, in the context of community for the sake of the wider school who are yet to know Jesus.
At JOLT we have the joy of equipping our students to think deeply, receive the support of our team and their peers as they live life for Christ. Ultimately, my hope is for every student at ACC to personally encounter the risen Jesus and know him as Lord and friend.
If parents have any questions, what's the best way for them to reach out to you, or to the Ministry team?
We welcome questions and would love to hear from you! Any of our team would be willing to chat. If you'd like to get in touch the best way would be via email at benjamingreen@acc.edu.au.
