Stage 1 (Year 1 and 2) Excursions to Elizabeth Farm
This week our Stage 1 students visited Elizabeth Farm, near Parramatta. Elizabeth Farm was once home to Elizabeth and John Macarthur, pioneers of the wool industry and a very wealthy family at that time. Elizabeth Farm house is a very rare example of an early Australian colonial homestead and students had great joy as they wandered around this beautiful house, room by room, exploring what life was like back in the 1700's.
We investigated what the Macarthur family might have done in their spare time, without televisions, iPads or games consoles. Students found out that beds were very tall because they often had three mattresses - one made of straw, one made of horse hair and one made of feathers. We also learned first hand what it was like to do the laundry by hand in the middle of winter!
Students enjoyed looking at the kitchen garden and practising writing with a quill pen and ink. Another highlight of the day was playing children's games outside, including hoops, skittles, quoits and a cup and ball. Stage 1 loved their time at Elizabeth Farm and gained a greater understanding of how changes in technology have changed everyday family life over time.
Year 8 Camp
Our Year 8 students had a great time away at Year 8 Camp! It was an exciting time of trying new things, making new friendships and the students challenging themselves. Students completed a 10km hike and stayed in tents overnight. A huge highlight for many was cooking their own food and seeing how quickly and effectively they could set up their own tents.
They also enjoyed completing a series of activities including indoor high ropes, laser tag and a challenge course. Another highlight was the time spent in ‘Christian Discovery’, discussing the proof and evidence for the Bible and the significance of Jesus in our lives. Students asked many well-thought and insightful questions and stimulated great discussions with our teaching staff.
We were delighted to hear from the CRU staff that our students are some of the best students they have ever worked with. Well done, Year 8!
